In addition to its primary function of providing engine timing information, the crankshaft position sensor can also be used to diagnose engine problems. If the sensor detects irregularities in the crankshaft's rotation, such as incorrect speed or timing issues, it can trigger a fault code that will illuminate the engine warning light on the dashboard.
